Huntsville City Schools’ spring break is Monday, March 15, to Friday, March 19, 2027. Easter is the following weekend, Sunday, March 28. City offices stay open; spring break is not a city holiday. Families who need care that week should watch for the city’s camp registration, which in 2026 opened in early February.

Camps

Huntsville Parks and Recreation (2026 details; 2027 not yet posted). In 2026 the city ran spring break camps March 16-20 at recreation centers across Huntsville, open to Huntsville City Schools students in grades 1-6. Full-day camps were $50 a week ($30 for each additional child in the same family), half-day art and sports camps were $25 ($10 for each additional child), and specialty basketball, pickleball and STEM camps were free. Registration opened online at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, and spots were limited, the city said.

Burritt on the Mountain (2026 details). Burritt’s Nature Rangers spring camp, “Wild Journey: Exploring Animals and Their Homes,” ran March 16-20, 2026, for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, with hikes on Burritt’s nature trails, animal lessons and crafts. 2026 listing.   • Huntsville Comic Convention, Friday and Saturday, March 12-13, 2027, the weekend before the break: comics, toys, anime and manga, artists and dealers across Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, 2211 Seminole Drive SW, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days. Admission is free; parking is $10 a vehicle. Details.
  • U.S. Space & Rocket Center, One Tranquility Base: the Saturn V hall in the Davidson Center and the rocket park. Hours and tickets are on the center’s site.
  • Huntsville Botanical Garden, 4747 Bob Wallace Ave. SW: spring blooms and family programs on the Garden’s calendar.
  • Kite flying at John Hunt Park: in 2026 the city and AshaKiran held the free 14th annual Community Kite Festival on Saturday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; a 2027 date had not been posted.
  • Swim indoors: the Huntsville Aquatics Center, 2213 Drake Ave. SW, and the Dr. Richard Showers Sr. Pool, 4600 Blue Spring Road NW, are open year-round; general admission is $4, the city says. See our summer camps and pools page.

Spring break is not on the city’s holiday list, so City Hall is open and garbage pickup runs on its usual days, per the city’s 2026 holiday schedule. Library branch hours are on hmcpl.org.
