Enrollment and teachers

  • State count: 828 students on the 2024-25 Alabama state report card.

State report card

Alabama grades every public school from A to F each year. The grade comes from a 100-point score built from students’ achievement and growth on state tests in English language arts and math, chronic absenteeism (the share of students who missed 18 or more days), progress in English language proficiency and, for high schools, graduation rate and college and career readiness, according to the Alabama State Department of Education’s report card rules.

2024-25 grade: B, 83 points. That compares with a C and 78 points on the 2023-24 card. Huntsville City Schools as a whole earned a B, with 89 points.

Indicator 2024-25 score
Academic achievement (ELA and math tests) 37.93
Academic growth 91.28
Graduation rate 95.51%
College and career readiness 96.63%
Chronic absenteeism (lower is better) 7.49% of students

Lee High’s full report card, with results by student group, teachers and spending, is on the state’s report card site. Graduation rate and college and career readiness are reported a year behind, so the 2024-25 card counts the class of 2024.

Attendance zone

Check an address with the city’s School Zone Locator, which Huntsville City Schools links from its enrollment page. Zones do not follow the city limits, and the locator also names the school district for each address.

In the district’s feeder pattern chart, Lee High takes students from Chapman Middle, and before them from Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary and Montview Elementary. The chart also sends students who live in the area formerly zoned for Chapman Elementary on to Chapman Middle; in the city’s zone data, those addresses are now zoned for Blossomwood Elementary.

Creative and performing arts magnet

Lee is the district’s Creative and Performing Arts Magnet high school. Its magnet page lists four conservatories:

  • Dance Arts
  • Musical Arts: instrumental and vocal performance
  • Theatrical Arts: theater performance and technical theater
  • Creative Arts: creative writing, film and video, photography and visual arts

Applicants choose up to two programs, audition for each and need a grade average of at least 70%; if more students qualify than there are seats, the district uses a lottery. Magnet Schools of America named the program a Nationally Certified Magnet School, valid through August 2030, the district reported.

The district’s magnet application window for the 2027-28 school year runs from Oct. 13 to Dec. 11, 2026, with first-round offers in February 2027, according to its magnet programs page. Students must live in the Huntsville City Schools attendance area, and magnet buses run from hub schools, not neighborhood stops.
